Watermelons are one of the largest known fruits and can weigh as much as 10 kg. They are thought to have originated in tropical African countries and to have been taken to America by European settlers. There are over 50 watermelon varieties.
Watermelons

Sandía negra     This variety is very similar to the red seedless watermelon except that it has darker rind on the outside and is darker red, and somewhat sweeter, on the inside.

Sandía sin pepitas rayada     Watermelons contain more water than any other fruit (93%) and therefore they have very few calories. Anecoop was the first company to produce a seedless watermelon for the European market. The fruit is characterised by its light green rind with dark green stripes. It has very soft white seeds in the flesh which go unnoticed during consumption.

Sandía mini     This variety weighs between 2 and 3 kg and is around 20 cm in diameter. It is a top-quality watermelon with high sugar levels and crunchy texture. It is equally as sweet at the centre as towards the outside. It is the ideal watermelon for small families.

Sandía amarilla   Yellow watermelons are similar to red ones in flavour and in the fact that they are seedless. They differ in the yellow colour of their flesh and in the slightly lighter green colour of their rind.

Melons were one of the first fruits to be grown by man. The melon is a large berry that varies greatly in size and shape depending on the variety. The delicious, firm, juicy flesh is white, yellow, cream, salmon or green in colour and has a sweet, refreshing flavour. There are 5 main varieties: Galia, Charentais or Cantaloupe, Honey Dew, Yellow, and Green or “Piel de Sapo” (Toad skin). Melons have large quantities of provitamin A (mainly beta-carotene) and 100 grammes of rindless melon provides 50% of the daily recommended intake of Vitamin C.
